In January 1496, Perkin was married to a Lady Catherine Gordon. The Gordons were a very significant family; Catherine was a cousin to James IV, her father George Gordon was the 2nd earl of Huntly with wide estates in the north and north East of Scotland, and Berwickshire. His attitude to both James III and James IV had been cautious.
